Weather alert for Coquitlam tonight

Possibility of mixed rain and snow as a weather system moves in

The last few days of beautiful but chilly weather might turn into a soggy mess as a weather system starts to move in to the south coast tonight.

And that could mean mixed rain and snow in Coquitlam, according to Environment Canada, which issued a weather alert for Metro Vancouver this morning.

According to the national weather agency, there is a chance of wet snow and a risk of freezing rain overnight and early Saturday.

“The ridge of high pressure that gave the south coast a cool, sunny stretch of weather this week is starting to retreat. A weak Pacific weather system will reach the south coast tonight. In advance of this system, cloud cover and winds will increase this afternoon and keep surface temperatures above zero degrees tonight. With a layer of relatively warmer air above the surface, a scenario of rain mixed with some wet snow is the likely outcome for most of Metro Vancouver.”

Other cities included in the weather alert are Burnaby and New Westminster, Maple Ridge, Surrey and Langley, Richmond and Delta and West Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The good news for drivers? Little to no snowfall accumulation is forecast.
