The Editor,

Re. "Officials defend China trip as just biz" (front page, The Tri-City News, Sept. 5).

I realize that those involved in education likely have to read a tremendous number of books to acquire a teaching degree. This gives them the ability to present their knowledge in a fair, unbiased way to their students.

After reading The Tri-City News' article on the China trips involving School District 43 officials, it appears to me that neither of the participants have read The Claws of the Panda by Jonathan Manthorpe. In it, the Confucius Institute is described in detail.

This book should be mandatory reading by all SD43 officials before they decide to take a trip to China.
