Letter: I may be a hypocrite but Port Coquitlam has some flawed 'logic' on gas fire pits

Propane or natural gas decorative fire pits like this one would be made legal in Port Coquitlam should council move forward.

Re. "Port Coquitlan to finally make it legal to use gas heaters, fire pits" (The Tri-City News, May 27)

All future generations, not just my grandchildren, are solid reasons for me to be concerned about carbon footprints and global warming.

However, I have on a few occasions enjoyed the ambiance of another person's propane fuelled fire pit or propane fuelled fire table during the cool interlude between sunset and bed time.

These conflicting experiences disqualify me from passing judgment on Port Coquitlam council for legalizing gas fire pits. Perhaps I am foolish for trying to see both sides of a coin at the same instant.

However, this disqualification does not preclude from being amused by the 'logic' of deciding to now allow gas fire pits because there were no incidents of fire damage during the five years in which they were banned. I am doubly amused to learn Port Coquitlam’s mayor considers this to be "common sense".
