Masks and mutual respect

“I wear a mask to protect you so you must wear a mask to protect me.”

Here is why I don’t need you to wear a mask to protect me:

I believe that masks are not effective protection against an airborne virus.

I believe that you are putting yourself at risk of developing bacterial pneumonia from prolonged and inappropriate mask use.

I do not need to deprive you of oxygen, of health, of life or of freedom in order to protect myself.

I do not need to impose any measure on you that is for my own protection.

I take care of my own health by strengthening my immune system.

I keep myself away from others if I am sick.

You looking after your own health and taking responsible precautions is enough for me.

Let’s define the true meaning of accountability.

Accountability starts with taking responsibility for ourselves first.

“Putting a mask on an asymptomatic person is not beneficial. What we worry about is the potential negative aspects of wearing masks.” Words spoken on CTV News by Dr. Theresa Tam, chief public health officer of Canada, in March 2020 (youtu.be/_edxN5kkBtc).

Were we listening? Where has fear taken us?

If you still choose to wear a mask, I respect your choice.

And if I choose not to wear one, I ask that you respect my choice too.
