BC girls get golds at minor BOXLA nationals

It’s girl power for British Columbia’s minor lacrosse players. Team BC won two gold medals at the Canadian minor box lacrosse national championships, that wrapped up in Coquitlam on Saturday.

Team BC won two gold medals at the Canadian minor box lacrosse national championships, that wrapped up in Coquitlam on Saturday. Both of them went to girls teams, which were participating in the same tournament as the boys for the first time.

Team BC defeated Ontario 3-2 in the girls bantam final. All the goals were scored in the third period, with Jordan Baxter’s game winner coming with 2:33 left to play in regulation time. It was her second goal of the game.

Alberta won the bronze medal, defeating Nova Scotia, 5-0.

In the female midget final, Team BC also bested Ontario, 8-0.

On the boys’ side, Team BC fell 12-7 to Ontario in the midget final, while Team First Nations won the bronze.

In the bantam final, Ontario again defeated Team BC, 8-3. Reid Hinds Macdonald scored two goals for BC, which trailed their eastern rivals, 4-0, at the end of the first period.

Team First Nations won the bronze, 10-6, over Saskatchewan.

Ontario also prevailed in the peewee gold medal game, with a 10-3 win over Team BC. Team First Nations won the bronze.
