The Coquitlam Express' final home game of the BCHL season will be a funny affair.

The team is hosting Corner Gas night at the rink on Friday, Feb. 27, and stars Brent Butt and Fred Ewanuick will be on hand to sign autographs during the first intermission. Donations will be collected at the game, which is against the Chilliwack Chiefs, with all proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation.

The popular Canadian television sitcom aired on CTV and the Comedy Network between 2004 and 2009 and eventually spawned a movie. Both stars reside in Vancouver, but Ewanuick was originally from Port Moody.

The two comedians have picked a good time to attend the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex, as the Express seem to be ending the 2014-15 regular season on a high note.

The squad extended its winning streak to five games on Friday, taking down the Cowichan Valley Capitals 6-4 at home.

The score remained tight for most of the first two periods, with the Caps opening the scoring five minutes into the match.

Coquitlam's Corey Mackin banged one past visiting goalie Lane Michasiw after being fed by teammates Brett Supinski to tie things up.

The Caps re-took the lead before the first period was over but the Express tied things up again just as quickly, this time with a marker from Brendan Lamont. Both teams exchanged goals in the second period, with Coquitlam's coming off the stick of Owen Stout, but the Express started to pull away in the third period.

Goals from Supinski and Gulka helped the home team take the lead and an empty-net insurance marker from Mackin finished off the visitors, who fell 6-4. The Express had 42 shots during the game, while Coquitlam net minder Braden Krogfoss turned away 29 of the 33 shots he faced.

Mackin was the first star of the game, while Supinski earned third star honours.

This Saturday's bout will likely be a first-round playoff preview for the Express.

Coquitlam beat out the Surrey Eagles for the fourth and final spot in the Mainland Division, while the Chiefs are firmly in the top spot with a 35-17-1-3 record.
