Botsis ninth at Universiade

Coquitlam hammer thrower Chanell Botsis finished ninth at the recent World University Summer Games in Naples, Italy. Her best throw was 60.16 metres, 11.09 metres back of the competition’s winner, Iryna Kylmets of the Ukraine.

Coquitlam hammer thrower Chanell Botsis finished ninth at the recent World University Summer Games in Naples, Italy. Her best throw was 60.16 metres, 11.09 metres back of the competition’s winner, Iryna Kylmets of the Ukraine. It was also short of her personal best, 62.66 metres, that she threw in April while competing for the University of Connecticut at the Larry Ellis Invitational track meet in Princeton, N.J.

Another hammer thrower from Coquitlam, Kalia Butler, failed to register a score in the preliminary competition and failed to advance to the finals.

Brittni Wolczyk, a javelin thrower from Port Coquitlam, finished 10th in her group in her event’s qualification round and also failed to reach the finals. Her best throw of 48.01 metres was also well short of her personal best, 53.10 metres.

The Games attracted about 6,000 student-athletes from 118 countries, participating in 18 sports.
