Centaurs refuse to cower at their own tournament

The Centennial Centaurs senior girls basketball team didn’t set up any soft touches for itself at their own Top Ten Shootout basketball tournament that began Wednesday.

The Centennial Centaurs senior girls basketball team didn’t set up any soft touches for itself at their own Top Ten Shootout basketball tournament that began Wednesday.

Centennial opened the annual gathering of some of the best squads in the province with a 71-57 loss to the seventh-ranked Heritage Woods Kodiaks. They followed that up with a game Thursday against top-ranked team in the province, the Semiahmoo Totems. It didn’t go well, as Centennial was trounced, 82-29.

Semiahmoo senior Faith Dut used every inch of her 6-foot-3-inch frame to reject shots, dominate the boards and score 20 points of her own.

The tournament continues Friday with playoff games beginning at 10:45 a.m. Semifinals are scheduled for 5:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The championship game will be played Saturday at 5:45 p.m., following a day of placement games. All games are at the gym at Centennial secondary.
