The Coquitlam Comets, er, Express, went back to the past for their game Sunday against the Langley Rivermen, but their offence disappeared altogether.

On a day the Express honoured their predecessors, the old Coquitlam Comets of the BC Junior Hockey League, the team failed to score in a 5-0 loss to the Rivermen at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex.

The Express, who wore the red and black colours the Comets, couldn’t ignite the red light despite firing 30 shots at Rivermen goalie Braedon Fleming and having six power plays.

The loss allows Langley to move to within four points of the Express, who are still in third place in the BC Hockey League’s Mainland division.

Langley opened the scoring 12:41 into the first period when Daneel Lategan scored his first of two goals. The Rivermen added two in the second period and one more in the third.

Kolby Stevenson faced 30 shots in the Express net.

Coquitlam will try to get back on a winning track on Saturday, when they pay another visit to Chiliwack to play the Chiefs. The team then enjoys an extended home stand of six games, beginning Jan. 7 against West Kelowna.
