The Coquitlam Chiefs just missed a chance to take home a medal at the midget 'A' division B.C. Hockey Provincial Championship in Dawson Creek last week.

Coach Jerry Ramak's team came up short in the third place game on Wednesday, falling to Sooke 6-3 despite goals from Kyle Hoover, Nico Fazio and Kurtis Kapitza. Coquitlam had a strong showing against Sooke, but couldn't hold off the Vancouver Island club, who was dominant throughout the tournament.

With the final loss, Coquitlam was 2-2-1 at the tournament after starting the championship with a couple of wins.

The Chiefs came out strong in Game 1 against Dawson Creek, but couldn't best the host team, which played Coquitlam to a 5-5 tie. Alex Suprynowicz, who was crucial for the Chiefs throughout the tourney, scored four goals, while Andrew Miller netted a single.

Coqutilam racked up its first win of the tournament against the Sunshine Coast, a rival team that the Chiefs have encountered several times during the regular season.

Goalie Santino Murdocco was strong in net for the Coquitlam squad, while Suprynowicz and Duncan Roberts each scored two in the 7-4 win. Teammates Nico Fazio and Steven Pringle also had goals in the match.

Coquitlam racked up their second win of the tournament later last week, taking down Quesnel 3-1 in a game that put the Chiefs in first place in their pool.

Again, Suprynowicz found the back of the net, along with Jake Luder and Kyle Hoover, while Bentley Ghioda was strong between the pipes for Coquitlam.

However, the Chiefs luck started to change in the playoff portion of the tournament. The club fell 7-3 to Terrace in the semifinal before struggling against Sooke in the final game of the tournament.
