Coquitlam curler aiming for BC U18 championship

Fresh off winning a gold medal in the men’s curling competition at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta., the foursome skipped by Coquitlam’s Hayato Sato is at the Juan de Fuca curling centre in Victoria for the provincial U18 curling championships.

Team Sato, which is based at the Royal City Curling Club in New Westminster, also includes third Joshua Miki, who’s from Port Coquitlam. It’s coached by Miki’s dad, Bryan, a former Canadian and world champion. Dawson Ballard, of Burnaby, and Troy Chong round out the squad.

Team Sato’s first game is against the Tunnel Town rink from Nanaimo and Duncan that is skipped by Connor Deane. 

The championship draw will be held Sunday, at 10 a.m.

The winner qualifies for the Canadian U18 championships that will be held in Sherwood Park, Alta,, April 2 to 7.
