The Coquitlam Little League all-stars scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to defeat Little Mountain, 10-8, Monday at Hillcrest Park in Vancouver.

The result leaves the District 3 champions with an unblemished record of two wins in their first two games at the BC Little League Majors provincial championships for 11-and 12-year olds.

Piero Leon Carney was credited with the win. He pitched one-and-a-third innings and allowed just one hit. He also struck out a Little Mountain batter.

Coquitlam spotted Little Mountain, which is hosting the tournament, a four run lead in the bottom of the first inning, but the all-stars got two of those back in their half of the third inning.

Little Mountain extended their advantage to 5-2 in the bottom of the third before Coquitlam exploded with six runs in the top of the fourth inning.

But the home team fought gamely back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the score, 8-8, heading into the final inning.

Timothy Plasentin, who started the game on the pitcher’s mound and gave up four runs in his one inning, contributed to the all-stars’ offence by scoring twice and batting in two other runs.

Coquitlam opened the tournament on Saturday with a 6-0 win over Trail. They play Hastings, which leads the tournament with two wins and a loss, tonight.

The all-stars are the first Coquitlam team to reach the Majors provincial championship since 2006.
