The Coquitlam Express battled back from deficits twice to defeat the Surrey Eagles 4-3 Saturday at the South Surrey Arena.

It was a return to the win column for the Express after a 5-4 setback to the Chilliwack Chiefs on Friday.

After the Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the first period was 7 minutes old, Coquitlam’s Pito Walton halved the advantage with a power play goal late in the frame.

Nicholas Wildgoose then got the Express back on even terms late in the second period with his fourth goal of the season.

Surrey went up 3-2 8:43 into the third period when Liam Ryan beat Express goalie Kolby Matthews but just over half a minute later Joshua Wildauer tied it again with his fifth goal of the season.

That set the table for Christian Sanda to score the winner with a little more than five minutes to play in the third period.

The win avenges a 4-1 loss to the Eagles last Wednesday in Coquitlam that ended the Express’ six-game winning streak. It was also a nice bounce back from Friday’s setback that gave the Chiefs sole possession of first place in the BC Hockey League’s Mainland division.

The Express are now in second place, two point behinds the Chiefs and one ahead of the Prince George Spruce Kings, but both of those teams have played fewer games.

The Express now get a break until Friday, when the team kicks off a four-game homestand at the Poirier Sports and Leisure Complex with a game at 7 p.m. against the Chiefs.
