The Terry Fox Ravens defeated the Riverside Rapids 34-0 in a crosstown showdown of senior boys rugby rivals at Terry Fox secondary school on Monday.

The Ravens, who filled out their lineup with several junior players, got a pair of tries from Paulo Santos, as well as singles from Michael Evans, Ethan Shuen, and Nathan Pieper. Kyle Huish kicked three conversions and a penalty.

“It was great to see the defensive intensity,” said Ravens’ coach Craig Geddes in praising the effort of his team’s back row that included Adam Tennet, Evans and Pieper.

“Their team wanted it more,” said Rapids’ coach Darren Mackenzie, after his side suffered its second consecutive loss following a run of six straight wins to begin the season. The Rapids also dropped a 38-8 decision to Seaquam last Thursday.

“Too many missed tackles from us,” Mackenzie added.
