Coquitlam's Jasmine Lew, shown competing at last summer's Harry Jerome Games in Burnaby, is leading her University of Toronto Blues track and field team to the U Sports nationals this weekend in Winnipeg.

Coquitlam long jumper Jasmine Lew continues to make strides at the University of Toronto.

The freshman has been named the Ontario University Athletics rookie of the year.

Earlier in the season, Lew became the first U of T long jumper in 20 years to soar more than six metres in a competition. She then did it again at the OUA championship.

At that meet, held at York University, Lew leaped 6.01 metres to win the gold medal and power her Blues women’s squad to a bronze standing overall.

Lew is ranked second in Canada heading into the U Sports national championships that begin Thursday at the University of Manitoba.
