They don't call them SuperMites for nothing.

PoCo Ravens capped a perfect season last weekend by winning the gold medal at the B.C. provincial softball championship for girls aged 9-10 at Burnaby's Squint Lake Park, marking the first time they've done so in the tournament's 19-year history.

A mucky tundra couldn't shackle the revved up Ravens, who won all four of their preliminary games by at least seven runs each, finishing with plus-28 runs and a plus-120 base total -- the highest possible in round-robin play.

In the title tilt, PoCo's Caitlyn Wong tossed a near-perfect one-hitter over four innings as the Ravens blasted Ridge Meadows -- the six-time reigning champions -- 10-2.

The win wrapped a glorious 37-0 season for the Ravens and marked their fourth tournament championship of the year.

"The devotion, spirit, sportsmanship, grace and passion that these youngsters displayed is the true spirit of community," raved PoCo Minor Softball Association girls vice-president Glenn Granstrom, via a press release. "They can be proud of what they have accomplished and the memories they shared with their parents, coaches, teammates and fans will always be with them."

Along with Caitlyn Wong, players on the champion Ravens were Megan Spence, C.C. Wong, Shaelyn Granstrom, Sarah Harrison, Emily Matsui, Samantha Shields, Jennifer McCollum, Julia Fung, Taylor Roeseler, Chelsea Eyre and Keona Nordquist.

The team was coached by Dave Roeseler, along with assistants Dianna Nordquist, Dave McCollum, Lawrence Matsui and Rod Wong.

Meanwhile, at the inaugural Squirt (U-12) Jamboree in Richmond last weekend, the PoCo Demons captured gold in the B Division, knocking off the Burnaby Roadrunners 16-10 in the final.

In the A Division, the PoCo Animals collected the silver medal.

Highlights for the Demons included catcher Morgan Rodgerson throwing out several runners, with third baseman Robyn Skaggs being the prime receiver; standout pitching by Chantal Wong and Aly Mullan; and key play by Hillary Rempal, Claire Plesko, Brooke Assels, Reese Plesko and Chloe Hnatiuk.
