Terry Fox Ravens to play for Fraser Valley championship

The flight of the Terry Fox Ravens to the senior boys AAAA basketball provincial championships continues Sunday when they’ll face Surrey’s Holy Cross Crusaders in the final of the Fraser Valley championship.

The Ravens, ranked atop the province, scored 28 points in the second quarter en route to an 89-57 victory over eighth-ranked W.J. Mouat, from Abbotsford, in Thursday’s semifinal at Langley’s Events Centre.

Jevan Uppal had 18 points, while Jacob Mand and Grady Stanyer each had 17 points to lead Terry Fox, who counted five players to score double-digits.

The Crusaders, ranked fifth in the province, upset third-ranked Lord Tweedsmuir, 105-93, in the other semifinal.

The Ravens defeated Holy Cross twice earlier in the season, 86-72 at the Kodiak Classic last November, and 93-65 in December at the Tsumura Invitational.

Sunday’s final goes at 8 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre (LEC).

Centennial secondary will play the Walnut Grove Gators for fifth place at 6 p.m. on the Fieldhouse court at the LEC.

The Centaurs qualified for the provincial championship tournament for the first time in 10 years when they defeated the Guildford Park Sabres 80-78 on Thursday.

The Heritage Woods Kodiaks will face the Sabres on the LEC’s South court, also at 6 p.m., for the final spot in the provincials open to Fraser Valley teams.
