The Canada Winter Games are coming up bronze for Coquitlam biathlete Andrei Secu.

The 19-year-old skier and shooter who was born in Romania, won his third bronze medal of the competition in Red Deer, AB., on Wednesday as part of the men's 3 X 7.5 km relay race. The latest medal is in addition to the bronze he won Tuesday in the 10 km individual pursuit. He also finished third in the sprint event that was held last Sunday.

In Tuesday’s pursuit event, Secu was just behind his teammate, Ryan Elden, of Quesnel, who finished first. Leo Grandbois, from Quebec, finished second.

“The range was crazy today,” Secu said of the race that was held at the River Bend Golf and Recreation Area. “We usually don’t have any people at our races. It was crazy to have people all the way around the track cheering.”

Secu has been competing in biathlon since 2014, when he was introduced to the sport through the cadet program. He placed ninth at the Canadian nationals in 2016 and he won a gold medal at the BC Winter Games that same year. He’s also a member of the Whistler Nordic Development Centre that is training the next generation of high performance athletes competing in Nordic events.

Secu will go for his fourth medal of the games today in the 12.5 km individual race.
