The Wenatchee Wild opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal two minutes into the game and never let up en route to a 6-1 win over the Coquitlam Express, Saturday in Wenatchee.

The Wild scored two more goals less than a minute apart later in the frame to take a 3-0 lead into the dressing room. They extended that to 4-0 late in the middle period before Coquitlam’s Troy Robillard got the visitors on the board with his first goal of the season.

But Wenatchee scored twice more in the third period, again in quick succession.

Coquitlam’s lack of jump in their second of back-to-back road games was evident on the shot clock as well, as the Express directed only 14 pucks at Wild goalie Cal Sandquist.

Wenatchee, meanwhile, fired 31 shots at Express keeper Clay Stevenson, who was charged with only his second loss of the season.

The Express return home and will host the Victoria Grizzlies next Friday at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
