Dr. Ian Hyams has more than 25 years of experience as a family doctor, and has just relocated to Port Coquitlam.
Walk-in clinics are an important part of medical care in Canada, but there’s nothing quite like having your own family doctor – one who remembers how your crackly chest sounded last winter, or that your son can’t stand shots.
Dr. Ian Hyams qualified as a doctor more than 20 years ago and until recently was located in West Vancouver. He moved to Port Coquitlam recently to be closer to family, and is now the head of Elicare Hyams Medical Clinic, a brand-new clinic at Fremont Village Shopping Centre.
The clinic will eventually offer walk-in and specialty services, but for now, the emphasis is firmly on family medicine. Dr. Hyams has a special interest in chronic pain management and treatment of fibromyalgia, and will be joined by three other GPs from different specialties and backgrounds.
“Dr. Hyams is looking forward to putting down roots in the Port Coquitlam community and getting to know the people who live here,” says Richard Wang, director of operations for Elicare, which is partnering with the doctor in the new clinic. “He’s known for his caring, genuine approach and his thoroughness – so important in a family doctor, as well as his expertise in helping people deal with chronic pain, which can be such a difficult condition to live with.”
Elicare Hyams Medical Clinic will be reaching out to other clinics and healthcare practitioners in the PoCo area. “We want to be part of the medical community here, getting to know our colleagues and seeing how we can be of service to them,” says Wang. “It’s part of our commitment to creating a strong, healthy community in Port Coquitlam.”
Elicare Hyams Medical Clinic is at 105 Fremont Village Shopping Centre, 1250 Dominion Ave, Port Coquitlam and is open 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday, plus selected Sundays. To find out more, visit Elicare.ca/port-coquitlam, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
