On Our Radar: 40th Prince George Terry Fox Run going ‘virtual’ in honouring hero’s legacy

Residents asked to participate in event ‘in any form’ in hopes of hitting $1 million

Honouring one of Canada’s historic heroes may look a bit different this year, but the spirit of his legacy is still set to take Prince George streets.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Terry Fox Run won’t be held in an in-person organized setting, but instead, residents are encouraged to take part in their own five-kilometre run in their local neighbourhood.

And, it’s also a major milestone year as it’s been 40 years since Fox’s Marathon of Hope began.

In keeping with its virtual theme, participants are asked to share photos and videos on social media of their experience, as well as donating to Jim Terrion’s fundraising page for the Terry Fox Foundation.

Terrion’s goal is to surpass more than $1 million in donations in 2024 since 1990.

He nearly reached $800,000 in 2019 with $40,206 raised between Prince George and Prince Rupert.

Those five kilometres can be covered in any form residents wish to do so, whether it be by running, walking, biking or even rollerblading.

The Terry Fox Run in Prince George is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

More information on how to participate can be found on the Terry Fox Run PG Facebook page, where you'll also find a link to donate.
