Three children from a visiting school group were struck by a driver outside UBC's Botanical Garden on Wednesday, June 1, around 12:30 pm.

The car “left the roadway and ended up on a sidewalk,” according to a UBC RCMP press release. First responders arrived shortly after and the Botanical Garden announced its closure at 1:05 pm.

The venue remains closed Thursday.

The children, who police believe are nine or 10 years old and in Grade 4, were transported to BC Children’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement. Intoxication is not thought to be a factor at this time, according to the police.

This incident follows a fatal collision that occurred on a nearby stretch of Marine Drive just last fall.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the University RCMP Detachment at (604) 224-1322.
