Update: Amber Alert for missing 3-year-old cancelled, child found safe

An investigation into the reported abduction is ongoing

An Amber Alert issued for a three-year-old boy late Monday night in Vancouver has been cancelled.

Vancouver Police say the child was found near Calgary, Alberta and is safe.

The alert, which was issued at about 11:20 p.m. on Monday, said the three-year-old boy was last seen at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.

RCMP officers located the child and his mother early Tuesday morning, according to the VPD.

The child is now receiving care and the suspect has been arrested, note authorities.

An investigation into the reported parental abduction is ongoing, adds the VPD.

An Amber Alert is issued during an alleged child abduction situation that meets established criteria and is issued to get help from the public for the "safe and prompt return of the child," according to the RCMP.

This program uses highway message boards, radio and television announcements and text messages to immediately broadcast descriptions of the abducted victims, their abductors and suspect vehicles.

Amber Alerts are only activated by authorized users within law enforcement agencies and must meet all of these conditions:

  • The victim is under the age of 18
  • Police have reasonable grounds to believe that the victim has been abducted
  • Police have reasonable grounds to believe the victim is in imminent danger
  • Police have obtained enough descriptive information about the victim, abductor and/or the vehicle involved
  • Police believe that the alert can be issued in a time frame that will provide a reasonable expectation that the child can be returned or the abductor apprehended
