LADNER, B.C. — Police in Delta say they're investigating a fire deemed "suspicious" in the downtown core of Ladner, B.C., Sunday night.

Spokesperson Cris Leykauf says no one was injured or had to be evacuated due to the fire that was extinguished by the Delta fire department.

The fire is believed to have started in a dumpster at the back of the building with multiple businesses, causing the rear wall and roof to catch fire.

Delta police say in a statement posted online a thrift store sustained the worst damage from the fire, while nearby units saw damage from smoke.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, while the police statement suggests the fire was suspicious.

The local fire department alerted police shortly after 11 p.m. and Leykauf says anyone who was in the area, including those who may have video footage, is being asked to call Delta police.
