Female pedestrian killed in Burnaby crash

Police are asking drivers to avoid Hastings Street in Burnaby. The street is closed in both directions because of a fatal pedestrian-involved collision Thursday morning.

Hastings Street remains closed in both directions in Burnaby after a deadly pedestrian-involved collision.

Emergency crews were called to the area of Hastings Street and Rosser Avenue at about 11 a.m. Thursday for reports a pedestrian had been struck in the 4300-block of Hastings, according to Burnaby RCMP.

Police confirmed the incident resulted in the death of a female pedestrian.

"We are still working to determine the circumstances of this incident, which has tragically claimed a life," Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in a news release.

He said Hastings will likely remain closed between Rosser and Madison avenues into the evening hours and commuters should find an alternate route and avoid the area.

Burnaby RCMP's Criminal Collision Investigation Team has assumed conduct of the case, according to the release.

Investigators have identified the vehicle allegedly involved  and are following up with information provided by witnesses.
