A meat and poultry processor in Richmond was ordered to close down after a routine inspection last week.

Rodent and insect activity was found at Lefong Trading Inc., on Gordon Way, near Graybar Road and Westminster Highway.

A total of nine critical infractions, including food being unprotected from contamination, were identified during Vancouver Coastal Health’s (VCH) inspection on June 28.

VCH’s inspection report also shows Lefong’s premises was not maintained “in a sanitary condition,” temperature records were not being used, a food safety plan was not maintained and procedures in its sanitation plan were not being followed.

According to VCH, critical infractions are “more likely to contribute to illness and/or injury” or they could have “an immediate impact on the safe and sanitary operation of the food premises unless corrected.”

Lefong’s premises was also found to have construction or alteration done without approval, which was considered a non-critical infraction.
