A special needs school in Coquitlam is seeking votes for funds towards a new play space.
This is the second year Mediated Learning Academy has been named a finalist in the BCAA Play Here competition.
The Coquitlam school supports the education and learning needs of 90 children, almost half of whom have autism, while other use walkers or wheelchairs.
The current playground is old and dilapidated while a new space would provide the students with safe and fun outdoor play.
“Our kids need a play space not only for play but also to help them focus and self-regulate and for therapy,” explained Kathleen Jefffrey, school principal.
However, votes are needed to help[ them win $100,000 towards this initiative.
The school is currently in sixth place.
The contest closes June 23 at 11:59 p.m.
