A Riverside secondary grad took third place in CBC's Recipes to Riches this week.
Jesse Meredith won the spot in the reality TV show finale on Wednesday night, losing out to Halifax's Cyra Belbin who took home the top prize of $250,000 for her Mexi Mac 'n Cheese Bites.
Meredith, an actor, whipped up milk chocolate raspberry cheesecake cupcakes and won $25,000 for his dessert that is now on the shelves at Loblaw grocery stores.
PREEMIE HELP
Preemies born at Royal Columbian Hospital, which serves the Tri-Cities, and their families will get help thanks to Variety - The Children's Charity, which last month donated $136,387 to the health-care institution.
The money will be used to buy two Giraffe incubators for RCH's Variety NICU.

Crossroads Hospice Society netted a $1,268 donation last month from the Port Moody Oldtimers Hockey Association.
The money was collected through the league's hockey pool/raffle. "As local residents, most league members have had some degree of interaction with the Crossroads Hospice palliative care facility across the street from our arena, including its caring for some association members," said PMOHA board member Kevin Luckhart in a news release.
GOOD TEACHER
A Maple Ridge teacher with long-time roots in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam will be honoured next week with the 2014 UBC Alumni teaching award.
Scott Ormiston, a Centennial secondary grad who works in the Aboriginal Education Department in the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows school district, has been credited with the success of helping to boost aboriginal graduation rates.

An Anmore resident is one of 36 recipients of this year's BC Community Achievement Awards.
Gordon Marks will get his accolade from Premier Christy Clark and Keith Mitchell, chairperson of the British Columbia Achievement Foundation, on April 29 at Government House.

A Port Coquitlam business has earned a national award from Ford of Canada.
On Tuesday, Metro Ford Motors took the 2013 President's Award Diamond Club accolade for superior customer satisfaction and sales.
SHRED SHARE
A Coquitlam RCMP "shred it" document event last weekend translated into 667 pounds of food plus $490 in donations for the Share food bank, said Cpl. Jamie Chung.
"Kudos goes to everyone who helped out and especially to our volunteers who spent a part of the day to make a positive difference in the lives of many less fortunate in our community," he said in a news release.

A 15-year-old Port Coquitlam girl who was born a right-arm amputee is pursuing her dream of being a ballerina thanks to the War Amps Champ Program.
Julianna Russo received a specially made artificial arm with a flexible wrist and fingers that helps with pushing and spinning and allows her more freedom.
