Join the Port Moody Ecological Society for a winter lantern festival on Friday, Dec. 21 from 5-8 p.m..

Celebrating the winter solstice is a time honored tradition and this year Noons Creek Hatchery will do it with lanterns and encourage people to walk and meditate on the value of land, the watershed and all the living creatures.

Port Moody Ecological Society will host its first ever Winter Solstice in the Watershed Lantern Walk on Friday Dec. 21 from 5-8 p.m. at the hatchery next to the Port Moody Recreation Centre.

This free community event is led by Port Moody artist Joyelle Brandt who last organized a winter solstice lantern event in PoMo in 2016.

Participants will create a watershed-inspired lantern and walk from the Noons Creek Hatchery to the Crossroads Hospice Labyrinth and back. They’ll enjoy coffee, tea or hot chocolate and drumming and singing near a warm fire. Other food options will be available at additional cost.

Donations to the Port Moody Ecological Society to support arts-based educational programs will be encouraged.
