10 dead, 123 infected as Coquitlam care homes battle COVID-19 outbreaks

The grim tally at two Coquitlam long-term care homes battling COVID-19 outbreaks has risen to 10 dead and 123 infected, according to Fraser Health. 

As of Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 22, four residents had succumbed to the coronavirus at Lakeshore Care Centre. In total, 35 residents and 17 staff members have so far tested positive for the virus since an outbreak was declared Dec. 4. 

At the nearby Belvedere Care Centre, six residents have died in an outbreak that has so far infected 35 residents and 17 staff, according to a spokesperson at Fraser Health. 

PORT COQUITLAM HOME FIGHTING RETURN OF COVID-19 

A third Tri-City outbreak, this time at a Nicola Lodge in Port Coquitlam, was declared over the weekend. 

This is the second time Fraser Health has declared a coronavirus outbreak at Nicola Lodge, with the last — comprising a single case in a resident — having been eradicated in June. 

According to Fraser Health, seven residents and three staff at Nicola Lodge have tested positive for the SAR-CoV-2 virus which causes COVID-19.
