A coronavirus outbreak at a Coquitlam long-term care facility has had its active case count climb to 31.

That includes 22 residents and nine staff members at the Lakeshore Care Centre, confirmed Fraser Health Dec. 11.

The health authority said it’s supporting staff at Lakeshore. Further cleaning and infection control measures have been ramped up and twice-a-day screening for the coronavirus has been rolled out, said Fraser Health.

Visitors, meanwhile have been restricted throughout the facility and staff and residents movement has been curtailed.

The Lakeshore outbreak is one of two active outbreaks in the Tri-Cities. After Fraser Health declared the two outbreaks at Port Coquitlam’s Hawthorne Seniors Care Community over earlier this week, the Belvedere Care Centre in Coquitlam is the only other seniors home currently battling a COVID-19 outbreak.

As of Dec. 8, five residents had died of COVID-19 at the Belvedere outbreak. A total of 35 residents and 17 staff members have so far tested positive for the coronavirus, though only four residents and two workers continue to battle the infection.
