Map showing weekly number of COVID-19 cases in the Greater Vancouver region, by health service delivery area: North Shore – Coast Garibaldi (North and West Vancouver, Bowen Island, Sunshine Coast, Powell River, Howe Sound, Bella Coola Valley and Central Coast); Vancouver; Richmond; Fraser North (New Westminster, Burnaby, Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows and Tri-Cities) and Fraser South (Langley, Delta, Surrey, South Surrey/White Rock).

New cases of COVID-19 in Richmond edged up again this past week – BC Centre for Disease Control reported 145 new cases detected between Jan. 1 and 7.

In the previous week, BCCDC reported 104 new cases in Richmond.

There have been a total of 1,647 cases in Richmond since the beginning of the pandemic, with between 10 and 20 detected daily (between five and 10 per 100,000 population).

These numbers come as Vancouver Coastal Health has been kept busy trying to contain outbreaks in two long-term care facilities, Minoru Residence and Fraserview Intermediate Care Lodge.

Nine people have died of COVID-19 in these two facilities, three at Minoru and six at Fraserview, and 96 people have been infected.

Richmond’s medical health officer, Meena Dawar, said on Tuesday the plan was to have all residents, staff and essential visitors vaccinated by the end the week at these two facilities as well as at all long-term care facilities in Richmond.

Richmond residents can get tested for COVID-19 at the Richmond Test Collection Centre, 5911 North Service Rd., located just before the airport at the JetSet parking lot. It’s open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and is for drive-through, drop-in only.

There is also a testing site for walk-ups only at the Richmond Hospital, 7000 Westminster Hwy., open 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (closed from noon to 1 p.m.).

Test positivity rates in Richmond are around five per cent, Dawar said.
