Two employees at a Real Canadian Superstore in Coquitlam have tested positive for the coronavirus in the store’s third exposure notification in less than a month.

The chain’s parent company, Loblaw Companies Ltd., listed an exposure notification Tuesday, Dec. 22, noting the employees last worked at the store on Dec. 12 and Dec. 18, respectively.

It’s not clear if anyone else at the store — worker or customer — was exposed to the infected staff member. This is at least the third time the Real Canadian Superstore in Westwood Mall, located at 3000 Lougheed Highway, has been hit with COVID-19.

As the largest food retailer in Canada, Loblaw oversees a large portfolio of brands in addition to Real Canadian Superstore including T&T Supermarket, No Frills Supermarket and Shoppers Drug Mart, among others.

The only other Real Canadian Superstore in the Tri-Cities, located at 1301 Lougheed Hwy., was flagged for an earlier exposure on Dec. 2, for a Nov. 24 exposure.

Several of Loblaw’s other Tri-City locations have been flagged for positive COVID-19 cases among their workers including Dennis’ No Frills, Shoppers Drug Mart at 3025 Lougheed Hwy. as well as multiple exposures at the Coquitlam Centre’s T&T Supermarket.

The latter shut its doors for several days earlier this month following at least four cases among its workers in just over a week, in what the store’s CEO described as an “unsettling” virus situation.

There are currently 18 Loblaw stores across B.C. with active exposure notifications.
