TORONTO — The National Ballet of Canada has found a new executive director in U.K. theatre boss Charlotte Geeves.
The ballet’s board chair Rags Davloor says Geeves begins the post in September, when interim director Amanda Ram returns to her previous role as the ballet’s chief financial officer.
Davloor says Geeves brings a wealth of senior leadership experience from various cultural institutions, making her an ideal partner for artistic director Hope Muir.
Geeves heads to Toronto from the city of Bristol, where she has been executive director and joint CEO of the Bristol Old Vic for the past six years.
She says in a release that she’s had a passion for dance since she was young, and that deepened during a stint as interim director of programming at the London performing arts venue, Sadler’s Wells Theatre.
Former executive director Barry Hughson left the ballet on July 1, 2024 to become executive director of American Ballet Theatre in New York.
