A sculpture garden is proposed for a part of the city-owned land currently occupied by the Port Moody Arts Centre (PMAC).

Last month, during a committee of the whole meeting, PMAC staff asked city council for permission to work with civic employees to see if they could apply for federal funding to develop the public art garden.

Executive director Stephen Torrence told The Tri-City News last week PMAC wants to gain a grant as part of the Canada 150 celebrations; the application is due Oct. 1.

Torrence said no firm location or concept has been decided; however, the garden would likely go in the front of the historic building to face St. Johns Street, he said.

Torrence was also not able to say if any trees would be lost although, if approved, a landscape architect would be hired.

The funding would be used for commissions and installation while the city would be responsible for maintaining it, he said.
