A Burnaby-based organization that supports new parents is now offering help via text message.
The Pacific Post Partum Support Society is now adding text-based support to its existing telephone support line. The society’s counsellors will be available for text support on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Text 604-255-7999 to access help.
It’s open to both mothers and fathers, until their youngest child is three years old, as well as pregnant women and their partners, concerned family and friends, and professional and community helpers.
The society, in a write-up about the new service, notes that it may be perfect for those who have issues with the traditional telephone support – whether that’s because they don’t have a landline, they don’t have enough cellphone minutes, they’re experiencing spotty reception or they don’t want to disturb a sleeping baby or talk about their experiences in front of their toddler.
The write-up says text message support will be provided through a secure health-care text-messaging service that’s already used by many help lines across Canada.
The organization’s telephone support line is 604-255-7999 for the Lower Mainland, or 1-855-255-7999 elsewhere in B.C. Phone support is currently available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The society also offers support groups for mothers and for partners, as well as resources for supporters.
