A theatre company founded in Coquitlam will go back to its roots with Shrek: The Musical.

In February, Align Entertainment will showcase the first production it opened with in 2014, at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby.

Based on the animated movie about a ogre, Align’s musical will be directed and co-produced by Port Coquitlam resident Chad Matchette, the co-owner and artistic director of the Lindbjerg Academy of Performing Arts in Coquitlam; Matchette is also a co-owner of Align along with Coquitlam’s Patti Volk and Riccardo Perisiani.

Charlie Deagnon is cast in the lead role while Maddie Livland portrays his love interest Princess Fiona.

Place des Arts’ on-camera acting instructor Daniel Curalli takes the part of Donkey. Curalli’s theatre credits include Theatre Under the Stars (Newsies), Align (Hairspray, Mary Poppins and Annie) and Vancouver Opera.
