A Port Moody comedy magician won a prestigious prize from the Society of American Magicians (SAM) last week in Coquitlam.

Chris Yuill clinched the Leon Mandrake Award for Excellence in Showmanship and Creativity from the SAM 95 Carol Hemeon Assembly Vancouver, at its Jan. 17 gala dinner and awards banquet held at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver.

“This is a great honour,” Yuill said in a press release. “To be judged and voted on by your peers — and to come out on top — is something I’ll never forget.”

Yuill’s talent has brought him to Yuk-Yuks Comedy Club for the Vaudeville Comedy Revival and its All Magic nights; he has also performed for the Edmonton Oilers and on the television special Off the Wall.

Yuill has other awards to his credit including silver medals in the PCAM challenges. In 2014, he took Victoria’s Farquhar Award for magician of the year as well as the FVMC creativity accolade.
