Friends and family have launched a GoFundMe for the victim of the downtown Prince George explosion, who sustained serious injuries.
On Tuesday, Aug. 22, Victoria Mcgivern was working adjacent to the building on Fourth Ave. and Dominion St. that exploded around 7 a.m. and was hit by the blast.
She was airlifted to the trauma unit at the Vancouver General Hospital, where she is being treated in the intensive care unit.
The GoFundMe explains that her injuries are severe and considered critical. She currently has extensive burns, bruises, severe lacerations to her face and hands, a brain bleed with swelling and a skull fracture. She is currently under medical sedation and on a ventilator until doctors can access the extent of her injuries.
She is a mother to three young children, ages nine, seven and the youngest is about to turn five.
Her long term partner, Ryan, will be taking periods of time off work to travel back and forth the long distances between Prince George and Vancouver to be by her side.
“The cost of raising a young family is hard enough to begin with. This tragedy will greatly impact the family’s ability to earn income. It will also mean significant expenses related to travel, accommodations, childcare and future therapies required for recovery, both physical and psychological,” reads the GoFundMe.
“Our hope is that we can provide some support so that the family is able to focus more on recovery and less on the financial burden.”
As of 9:30 a.m. Thursday, the GoFundMe has already raised $43,786 of its $10,000 goal. Those who wish to donate can do so here.
