Metro Vancouver resident Yvonne Kerman won $1 million on a Lotto 6/49 ticket.

A stop at a Surrey Safeway has turned into a huge travel plans for one local woman.

Yvonne Kerman scored a $1 million Lotto 6/49 win on the Sept. 2 draw after a trip to the grocery store on 152 Street.

After the draw, she was at a mall lottery kiosk when she checked her ticket.

“The first thing that crossed my mind was, ‘Holy crap,'" Kerman says in a press release. “I went to grab my daughter so that she could also look and make sure it was real.”

In her excitement, she called her husband but wasn't completely coherent at first.

“I phoned him from the car but was crying so he didn’t know what was going on at first," she says. "He didn’t think I was telling the truth until my daughter also talked to him.”

The windfall is going to take her family on some big trips with plans already being made for the Mediterranean and cruising around the south of Europe.

Kerman calls the win "unbelievable and freeing."
