Homicide investigators are identifying the man who was found dead inside a vehicle in Surrey over the weekend as Pavanbar Paul Mannan.

Police responded to a shooting just after 5 p.m. on July 9 near 96A Avenue and 130 Street. An unresponsive man was found inside a vehicle.

"First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced deceased on scene,” says Sgt. Timothy Pierotti with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

In an email to Glacier Media, Pierotti said police found Mannan with gunshot wounds and believe the shooting was targeted.

Shortly after at 5:25 p.m., Surrey RCMP were called to a vehicle fire less than five kilometres away from where the 29-year-old Surrey resident was found dead. A grey Subaru Forrester was located burnt near 82A Avenue and 152A Street.

Investigators and forensic experts from Surrey RCMP are working to determine if the vehicle fire is connected to the homicide.

“IHIT will be in both areas throughout the day speaking with neighbours and canvassing for video,” says Pierotti.

Investigators hope releasing his identity will further their investigation.

“If you have information and have yet to speak to police regarding this investigation, please contact IHIT immediately,” adds Pierotti.

Police are specifically looking for people who were in the area of 96A Avenue and 130 Street or 82A Avenue and 152A Street, between 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and have dashcam footage.
