Vancouver man dies of stab wounds in city's fifth homicide

Police are investigating the stabbing death of a 19-year-old man.

Police are investigating the city's fifth homicide of 2022 after a 19-year-old man was killed in the early hours of Monday, May 23, in Marpole.

According to the Vancouver Police Department officers were called to a fight that broke out near Southwest Marine Drive and Hudson Street (near the Arthur Laing Bridge) at 3:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found the young man alive but injured.

"Officers found a 19-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. Despite life-saving efforts by VPD, BC Ambulance Service and Vancouver Fire Rescue Services, the victim was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and died," the VPD says in a press release.

Police are looking for witnesses as the investigation continues.

“This incident happened close to a nearby nightclub at closing time,” says Const. Tania Visintin in a press release. “We know there were a lot of people who saw what happened this morning and we need them to call police.”

A 24-year-old man has been arrested and is still in police custody, though the VPD hasn't said what charges he may face.
