BC SPCA needs to make room in its provincial shelters to find temporary homes for cats displaced by the wildfires.

Adults cats currently in care with the BC SPCA can be adopted for half price until Aug. 2.

The promotion is good for all locations run by the non-profit group, which is hoping to free up space in its shelters to make temporary room for felines displaced by the wildfires.

Lorie Chortyk, the BC SPCA general manager of community relations, said taking on a mature cat has its benefits: They're more calm and settled, are litter trained and have developed personalities, she said in a news release.

The agency, which is mainly funded by individual donors, rescues nearly 15,000 cats and kittens around the province each year.

The Port Coquitlam SPCA education and adoption centre is at 3278 Westwood St. Call 604-468-4044.
