A barbecue is being held Aug. 25 in Lion's Park to raise funds to aid an indigenous people in Colombia.
Amnesty International is hosting the event from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and there will be information on the Colombia campaign, as well as other human rights issues, plus petitions to sign.
The event is to help the Kanhuamo, which according to Amnesty International, whose survival is at risk because of armed conflict and lack of government protection. Their lands are often rich in natural resources from which others wish to make money, said a press release.
