Coquitlam's Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex is introducing Healthiest Winner, a fitness program for those who wish to start a fitness regime for beginners. The program runs every Tuesday and Thursday from Jan. 15 to March 9, 7 to 8 p.m.

Coquitlam's Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex is introducing Healthiest Winner, a fitness program for those who wish to start a fitness regime for beginners.

The program runs every Tuesday and Thursday from Jan. 15 to March 9, 7 to 8 p.m., and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon.Participants will get all the training guidance, nutritional advice and motivational support. The program offers guided exercise sessions three times a week, with additional seminars on healthy eating and lifestyle.

Cost is $97.35 plus HST and includes two-month access to the swimming pool, sauna and hot tub, as well as selection of drop-in activities to expand your exercise program.

At the start of a new year, many people make the resolution to eat better to manage our weight. But once you've made the resolution, how do you get going and make it happen?

People over the age of 50 can join Jenn Messina, a registered clinical dietician, on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Dogwood Pavilion for a one-hour presentation: Healthy Eating for Weight Management.

Messina will help you jump start a weight-management plan for the new year. The session will include information and tools to lose weight and keep it off. There will be food samples, recipes and handouts.
