Books to go in Port Moody

Little Free Libraries are taking over the Tri-Cities - just in time for the Family Literacy Week.

Little Free Libraries are taking over the Tri-Cities - just in time for the Family Literacy Week.

Grants of $250 are being offered by the Tri-Cities Literacy Committee and many people have indicated an interest in starting one, says co-ordinator Barb Mancell.

As well, a new community book box has opened in the San Remo Drive neighborhood in Port Moody, adding to the five already established in the Tri-Cities region.

"This is something that would fit in our neighborhood quite well," said the San Remo Drive Book Box steward Pat Merrett. "It has been a month since the opening and it is obvious that it is being well used by the residents of San Remo Drive and many others who pass through our neighborhood," she said.

Built by volunteers with donated supplies, the Book Box is one of the largest in the Tri-Cities. It has three shelves for about 40 books and was decorated with a forest and inlet motif by artist Ruth Hoyem.
