Port Coquitlam firefighters will be holding out their boots this weekend in support of people with muscular dystrophy.

The community boot drive, which takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, will raise funds and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Firefighters will be collecting donations at B.C. liquor stores, Costco and Walmart. The money raised will go towards improving the quality of life for people living with the disease by purchasing mobility equipment, providing support services and funding research to find a cure.

"B.C. firefighters give so much to their communities every day fighting fires and responding to medical emergencies, but what is truly inspiring is their incredible dedication to help people affected by neuromuscular disorders." said Shelley Wells, executive director for western Canada with Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
