A celebration of life will be held March 2 for longtime Tri-Cities community activist Anita Van Ginkel, who died recently.

A teacher in School District 43 before she retired, Van Ginkel was active in politics and the peace movement, and is remembered fondly by Dawn Back, former MP and provincial MLA, as a tireless worker.

"She demonstrated a steadfast commitment to more inclusion and social justice for everyone. I greatly admired her intelligence, insight and incredible work ethic," Black said in a prepared statement.

Van Ginkel, the mother of former Port Moody city councillor Cynthia Van Ginkel, was involved in community organizations such as Delta Kappa Gamma, the Coquitlam Retired Teachers' Association, the local Council of Canadians and the Coquitlam Farmers Market.

The celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2 at Inlet Theatre in Port Moody.
