Coding club for girls at Coquitlam Public Library

A chance for teens to mentor younger girls and learn how to code
Girls coding
BCIT instructors will teach girls coding at a club at Coquitlam Public Library.

The world of computers and the Internet of Things is getting more interesting each day and Tri-City girls are invited to take part with a new coding club starting Jan. 30.

The Coquitlam Public Library and the local branch of Soroptimist International are partnering on the project.

Girls aged eight to 18 will learn how to code from BCIT instructors Colleen Penrowley and Rana Al-Sammarraie. Essentially, coding is typing commands that make computers do what you want them to do.
In addition to honing their own coding skills each meeting, older teens will be invited to mentor younger students.

The club will meet every Saturday from Jan. 30 to March 5 in the Computer Lab at the City Centre Branch. Meetings run from 10:30 a.m. until noon.

The club is free, but registration is required. To register, please contact librarian Chris Miller at  [email protected] or 604-554-7339 and provide the child or teen’s name and age, as well as a phone number and e-mail address.
