Most kids these days are often found connected to a digital device but a new city of Coquitlam program connects them to something that’s been around for a lot longer: nature.
Pinetree community centre is offering Junior Outdoor Explorers, a new program for children ages eight to 11 that connects them to the great outdoors and gives them an up-close view of nature.
It will run on Sundays from Oct. 14 to Nov. 25 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
The program combines fun indoor activities with outdoor exploration like salmon spotting, orienteering, shelter building, nature walks and geocaching while exploring Hoy Creek and Town Centre. It also includes science and art activities.
Junior Outdoor Explorers will run rain or shine so the city advises participants should dress for fall weather conditions.
More information and registration is available by phone at 604-927-4386, in person at the centre (1260 Pinetree Way) or online at coquitlam.ca/pinetree.
